Advice for working out in the heat: if you are going to exercise for about 2 hours or more, drink Gatorade or some other form of calories and electrolytes, don’t just chug water. Staying hydrated is important, but drinking too much water and not taking in anything else can cause hyponatremia. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea and worse in more severe cases. Trust me, I learned this the hard way after a triathlon in 2006! Have fun and stay safe this Memorial Day weekend! Don’t forget to count your blessings and don’t forget what the day means.
